E.B. White, the author of “Charlotte’s Web” and other classics of children’s literature, was also the White of Strunk & White, whose “Elements of Style” taught generations of college students to write. And, he was one of The New Yorker’s earliest and most important contributors. His essays, stories, and poems—published in the magazine for nearly six decades—won him many accolades, including a Pulitzer Prize. The untitled poem featured in this segment was published in December 1952.
